Who am I?
My name is Jill Dolby and I am the owner of LoJo Photography.
I opened LoJo Photography, Canberra Newborn Photography, in 2011 and have been capturing memories for my clients ever since.
I am married to Graham and have two children, Joshua and Charlotte. LoJo Photography is named for my children – the “Lo” comes from Lotte which is my nickname for my daughter and the “Jo” for Joshua.
I specialise in maternity and newborn photography because they are the genres that I love. That being said, I adore being able to take images for my clients on an ongoing basis to capture their families as they grow and change.
I am fully immunised and insured.
I first picked up a camera in the 1980s while still at school. I decided that I wasn’t very creative and moving into University I focused more on my academic pursuits. In the early 2000’s I had an RSI injury which made me re-evaulate how I spent my time. In my period off work I took up quilting and discovered a love of colour and creating. My son was born in 2006 and as a result of his birth I bought my first DSLR – having been used a point and shoot prior to this.
I rediscovered my love of photography in 2009 when my daughter was born, I found myself getting more serious about my photography and taking some workshops with visiting photographers. In 2011 I commenced a Diploma of Photography which I graduated from in 2012.
My focus on maternity and newborn portraiture grew as I took more and more photography courses. I love the new-ness associated with a baby, I love the smell, the tiny fingers and toes and the noises they may when they sleep. I treat each baby I photograph as if they were my own. I ensure I am up to date on the latest baby safety when it comes to posing your little ones and would never put a baby in a position where I felt they were in danger.
Some information on baby safety during photography sessions with LoJo Photography can be found here

My Studio
My studio is a room in my home. When you come to my studio for your newborn portraits you will sit at my dining table or, if you need it, feel free to have a lie down and rest on the lounge. It is relaxed. You will often find me in comfortable clothing and bare feet. I find that, especially photographing newborns, I need to be able to move quickly, quietly and efficiently and I dress to be able to do this.
